Green for Good – Changing Lives
In 2010, HanesBrands developed a way to combine three of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices – environmentalism, volunteerism and community improvement – into one comprehensive program.
Green for Good uses the proceeds from our sound environmental practices, such as recycling and energy savings, to fund targeted community improvement projects – in education, healthcare and infrastructure development, and disaster relief assistance – to help the communities where we operate meet their fundamental needs.
Our employees help make Green for Good effective by identifying potential projects and providing hands-on volunteerism. Every project is completed by a team of Hanes volunteers, enabling them to make direct and lasting contributions to the neighborhoods where they live and work.
Green for Good began as a pilot program in San Juan Opico, El Salvador. The success of the pilot program led to its expansion across our operations in El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Today, Green for Good is the principal source of funding for our Latin America CSR initiatives, which have included health clinics, hospitals, orphanages and schools. Other projects include tree plantings, beach cleanups and innovative medical missions that provide free life-altering surgeries.
Today Green for Good is our global, companywide philanthropic program. In the United States, Green for Good projects include our annual support for the United Way, the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, Habitat for Humanity and disaster relief.
