Making a Difference in the World

HanesBrands is proud to be making a difference in the world through our philanthropic Green for Good program. We provide opportunities through safe and rewarding workplaces and adhere to the highest ethical standards.

We work hard to maintain our reputation as a strong community member and conduct business around the world in a highly ethical and socially responsible manner.

Green for Good

In 2010, HanesBrands created Green for Good, a unique philanthropic program that combines three of our corporate social responsibility practices – environmentalism, volunteerism and community improvement. It takes proceeds from our sound environmental practices, such as recycling and energy savings, and uses them to fund community improvement projects carried out by employee volunteers in the areas of education, healthcare, disaster relief and infrastructure development.

Green for Good projects in Latin America have included renovations of health clinics, hospitals, orphanages and schools, as well as environmental programs and medical missions. In the United States, Green for Good projects include our annual support of the United Way, the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, Habitat for Humanity and disaster relief.

Workplace Quality

We pride ourselves on being an innovative workplace leader that provides safe and rewarding jobs, competitive wages and benefits, and unique opportunities for employees. Our employees enjoy a working environment that encourages collaboration, teamwork and free-flowing communication.

We are proud to be a preferred employer in the communities where we operate. In Latin America, Hanes has instituted a progressive education program that allows employees to earn their high school diplomas and seek college degrees. In Central America alone, more than 800 employees have received their diplomas through our Saturday school program and more than 500 are working toward college degrees. In the United States, our headquarter employees work a summer schedule of four extended days with Fridays off, giving them long weekends with their families.

Ethical Standards

HanesBrands holds itself to the highest ethical standards, and we expect no less from our partners. These standards are driven by our Global Code of Conduct and Global Standards for Suppliers. We abide by the law, we treat employees with respect, we do not harass or discriminate in any way (including but not limited to race, gender or any other protected class), we do not bribe, we do not tolerate underage workers, we maintain a safe and healthy workplace, and we respect employee rights to free association.

Each year we conduct more than 600 extensive audits of facilities through our industry-leading certification, monitoring and compliance programs – and we stop doing business with those companies who fail to meet our standards. Hanes is an accredited member of the Fair Labor Association, uses the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production program, works with the U.N. International Labour Organization’s Better Work program, and has scored among the best companies for social compliance and labor rights with advocacy organization As You Sow and Free2Work, a compliance grading system.
